Born in 1948 in Tonbridge, Kent, he was adopted and raised in West Sussex, eventually planting roots in Bognor Regis, that seaside spot in England.
He kicked off his creative journey at West Sussex College of Art and Design, where he was the first to study animation. By 1974, he was freelancing in London, and in 1980, he dove into film and TV design. His big claim to fame is the “I Love…” jigsaw puzzle series with Gibsons—like “I Love Spring” and “I Love Winter”—which grew out of a cheeky “I Survived Bognor Regis” poster that got some buzz. These puzzles are packed with humor and odd characters, a nod to his Bognor surroundings.
Mike’s also behind The Dreamstone, a 1990s animated series (52 episodes across four seasons on ITV) with George Lucas pitching in, and Bimble’s Bucket (26 episodes). Beyond that, he’s dabbled in wild stuff—like designing the Ray Jay Nimrod, a Mini-based kit car back in the day. Still based in Bognor Regis, he keeps churning out art that’s playful and nostalgic.
